Recipe of the Week

Detail of Caramel Apple-Almond Crepes

Caramel Apple-Almond Crepes

A great dish for dessert or breakfast, these filled crepes are quick and easy to make, full of wonderful flavor, and make any occasion special.

Old Fashioned

When a drink has been around for over 125 years and has a glass named after it, it seems like a good idea to try to master it for your own personal bar. However, like most popular cocktails, there are as many different versions and "right" ways to make this drink as there are fans of the drink. Here is my favorite method and recipe (notice the lack of marachino cherries and soda water which some people swear by!) but feel free to experiment until you find a mixture that appeals to your palate.

1 tablespoon simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 orange slice
2 ounces bourbon
Ice cubes

Combine the simple syrup and Angostura in an old fashioned glass and mix well. Add the orange slice and muddle for a few seconds. Add the bourbon and muddle until mixed. Add ice cubes and enjoy.

Makes 1 serving.
