Wilted Lettuce Salad
Recipe reprinted with permission from Becky's Cookbook.
"This is one of my "special recipes". When we were making up our family cookbook, it's one of the first ones we made my Grandma sit down and write out. Of course it was a little of this and a little of that, but we were able to pinpoint a few measurements from her directions. I've made this very often over the years and it's still one of our favorites. This is a very old recipe of my Grandma Z's. It's delicious!!! ;~)"
Cut up one head of lettuce. Cut up 5 to 6 slices bacon into small pieces. Fry brown. Put bacon chips on lettuce. Pour off some of the bacon grease if desired. To bacon grease, add 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water. Bring to boil. Boil to thick and pour over lettuce. Salt and pepper.
