Cinnamon-Pecan Monkey Bread
Don't ask me…I don't know why it is called monkey bread, it just is. What is it? Monkey bread is a decadent concoction made from small balls of bread dough rolled in butter and a variety of ingredients. It is very rich, but really fun and easy to make. This version is rich with pecans, brown sugar, and cinnamon for a wonderful breakfast treat.
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 thawed loaf frozen bread dough
6 tablespoons melted butter
Sprinkle the pecans in the bottom of a greased tube pan and set aside. Combine the brown sugar, sugar, and cinnamon in a flat dish and set aside. Cut the bread dough into 24 even chunks. Dip each chunk of dough into the butter and then roll into the sugar mixture. Layer on top of the pecan mixture. Cover and let rise in a warm draft free location for one hour. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the pan and serve hot.
Makes 10 servings.
