Floral Arrangement of the Month
May - April Showers Bring May Flowers
After all those rainy, snowy, and just plain dismal days of April it was so pleasant to be greeted this month with our early tulips and daffodils. April showers really do bring May flowers, and this year, they are gorgeous.
All of these flowers are gathered from my own small gardens for this casual and cheerful arrangement. I mixed at least one of most of the tulip varieties in my garden along with a few daffodils for this festive and colorful arrangement. Tulips really like to spread out and need a lot of room, so use a very wide vase (or like I did, a large pitcher) for this arrangement. If you don't have a garden, check the local floral shops. Many will sell assorted tulips and daffodils this time of year at reasonable prices.
1 very wide mouthed vase or pitcher
20 tulips in assorted colors
10 daffodils
Fill the vase with water and floral preservative. Cut the stems of the tulips to their desired length, and remove most of the bottom leaves, leaving at most the uppermost leaf per stem. Place the tulips in the water, staggering the different colors in the vase. Cut the stems of the daffodils and insert in between the tulips. Keep in a cool place and your arrangement should last at least a week.
