Floral Arrangement of the Month

April - Tawny Bouquet

Last month's arrangement heralded spring in a cheerful way, but this month we decided to do something different. In a month known for its lack of sunshine, we wanted to find a sunny colored bouquet, but didn't want something loaded with pastels or Eastery themes. We opted instead for an amber colored vase, and flowers in beautiful earth tones to match our décor. The result was this unique casual arrangement that even my husband enjoyed. In a cool area, this arrangement should last about a week.

Wide tapered amber or clear vase
1 bunch yellow giant mums
2 bunches yellow/brown alstroemeria

Fill the vase with water and floral preservative. Cut the stems of the alstroemeria off at an angle under running water, making sure to stagger the lengths of the stems. Place the alstroemeria in the vase. One by one, cut the stems of the mums off at an angle under running water, and add to the vase. Before adding each mum, make sure you know where you want to place it. The mum's petals are very sticky and will stick to each other and the alstroemeria…causing other petals to fall out and damage to the flowers if you try to move them around too much. Don't fuss too much…you want the look to be casual.
