Witch's Cauldron
This fun dish was a huge hit at a party I attended last year and makes for a fun dish for kids and adults alike. Feel free to be a bit messy when filling the bread bowl with the dip as a little dip sloshing over the side increases the cauldron-like appearance. Spicy or mild salsa can be used depending on the tastes and ages of your guests. A nice addition for those that like it spicy would be a few dashes of hot sauce and chopped jalapeno peppers.
16 ounces Velveeta cheese
2 cans regular or vegetarian chili with beans
1 cup salsa
1 cup diced black olives
1 round loaf black or pumpernickel bread
Tortilla chips (preferably black or blue)
Melt together the cheese, chili, salsa, and olives until smooth over low heat and keep warm. Remove the center of the bread, leaving a thick shell. Tear up the center bread pieces for dipping. Pour the cheese mixture into the bread right before serving. Add a small ladle to the bread and serve with the bread cubes and tortilla chips.
Makes 8 Servings.
