Chocolate Orange Blancmange
For some reason, chocolate and orange desserts just seem to mix well with Halloween. Beyond the obvious color mix, the tartness of oranges helps to offset the sweetness of the chocolate. At such a sugary holiday, this non-sicky sweet dessert makes for a lovely grand finale.
1/4 cup cornstarch
3 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 cups skim milk
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips
grated peel of 1 large orange
orange slices and peel for garnish
Blend cornstarch and sugar with 2 tablespoons milk. Heat remaining
milk and chocolate chips over medium heat until milk is hot and the
chocolate melts, stirring often. Pour chocolate mixture over
cornstarch mixture, mix well, then pour back into the pan. Stirring
constantly, bring to a boil and cook until mixture thickens.
Continue to cook for 3 minutes more, stirring constantly and add
orange peel. Pour into a sprayed 3 cup mold and refrigerate. To
serve, turn out of mold onto decorative plate and garnish with
orange slices and peel.
